Brand and Type Design, Art Direction
The ‘Sextant’ logo is my own original, custom-made logotype. Sextant is a genderless, inclusive and tongue-in-cheek perfume brand steeped in history. It is based on West Street, and evokes the youthful freewheeling of 1900s longshoremen, 1970s cruising and 1980s art. Out of respect for the AIDS/HIV crisis that heavily impacted the area in the 1980s, historic imagery is selected with respect and the mission includes donations to AIDS research.

Bringing together cruising ships and cruising men
The custom, original logotype was inspired by early 20th century typefaces used in shipping, but redesigned to be tall and slim with high contrast for a dramatic, playful and slightly sexy twist in line with the cruising of the 60s and 70s.
